Mission and Responsibilities

The Office of the Chancellor is primarily responsible for matters related to the clergy of the Holy Archdiocese of America. These tasks include, in addition to other matters, assuring their overall well-being, first assignments and reassignments between metropolises, continuing education and any benefits provided to them by the Church. Moreover, this office maintains up-to-date files and databases for all clergy and parishes throughout the United States. In addition, the Chancellor’s Office is charged by the Holy Eparchial Synod with processing all applications for ordination as well as for incardination from other Orthodox jurisdictions. New parishes being formed within the Holy Archdiocese of America receive their canonical status through the Office of the Chancellor.

This Office is also directly responsible for matters related to the clergy and parish administration in the Direct Archdiocesan District such as assignments, approving parish by-laws, reviewing building plans, coordinating seminars and ratifying parish elections, etc.

Additionally, the Chancellor’s Office administers the Taylor Scholarship which provides grants primarily to graduates of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology pursuing advanced degrees in theological studies and in pastoral training. This office also administers the Trakatellis, Gioles, Malta and Paleologos Scholarship Funds.
